What is Biodynamic Massage?

Biodynamic massage therapy supports health and emotional well-being. It affects all aspects of our being: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.

This is a mindful approach to touch developed by Gerda Boyesen, a clinical psychologist and physiotherapist, during the 1950s.

While working with her clients she observed that stress can have an effect on the internal rhythm of the body and on the regulation of the parasympathetic nervous system, which is associated with respiration and the emotional digestion of stressful situations.

Unique to this massage is the use of an electronic stethoscope as a way of listening to the peristaltic movement and digestive system of the client.

As a therapist I will tailor the massage guided by the sounds of the stethoscope to liberate accumulation of energy and stress contracted in tissues and stimulate the body's self-regulation.

It involves a broad range of techniques that work on the level of skin tissue, muscle and bone and on the more subtle level of the aura to create balance in the body.

Each session is different depending on the clients energy and needs. Before treatment starts an intention is formulated between client and myself so that the client is involved in their healing process.

About Me

Dr. Gisela Sumption

Gisela Perez-Olivas MSc PhD

I trained at the Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Center and I am a fully qualified biodynamic massage therapist.

I have always been interested in people's well-being and in offering support and advice. I hold a PhD in Psychology and I have been combining research (publications here) with supporting people on a volunteer basis and in the NHS over the last 20 years. I have worked with people with chronic pain and with symptoms of anxiety and depression. I am currently supporting people who are bereaved as a CRUSE bereavement volunteer. I am also exploring the application of music and the voice in therapy.
